Nidderdale borders the eastern side of the Yorkshire Dales National Park, having been left out in 1954 when the boundaries where drawn. Nidderdale was declared an AONB 1994.
The dale has a distinctive unspoilt character, which includes large areas of moorland with rock outcrops such as those found at Guisecliff and Brimham Rocks.
Angram and Scarhouse reservoirs dominate the head of the dale while managing to blend with the surrounding scenery, these two stone clad dams provide water for the city of Bradford.
Nidderdale has plenty to offer on a day out in the dales, a world heritage site, the outstanding Cistercian monastery of Fountains Abbey and Studley Royal water gardens, England's little Switzerland - Howstean Gorge, Stump Cross Caverns, Ripley Castle and the award winning Nidderdale Museum.
